Abstract submission is closed

EduPet Education and the Herpetofauna foundation invite researchers from around the globe to submit abstracts for presentation at the 2019 Herp symposium themed ‘Venomous snakes as flagship species’, held at the Burgers’ ZOO, Arnhem, The Netherlands.

The symposium will feature a wide range of exciting talks and networking opportunities with experts and researchers in the field of ecology, biology, toxicology and herpetology. We welcome abstracts relating to these topics, and would like to invite researchers at all career stages for participation. We specifically like to encourage researchers outside the field of venomous snakes to submit their abstract.  Submission is possible until June 15th 2019, 11:30 p.m. CEST by filling in the form. The abstracts must be submitted as either a pdf-document or a word-document.

Submissions must include

    • A clear and concise abstract of no more than 500 words, in English
  • A title
  • A list of all authors with their full names
  • Institution affiliations for each authors
  • Disclosure of any conflicts of interest

The first author listed serves as the presenting author and as the contact for all correspondence regarding the abstract, unless specified otherwise.
Moreover, all submissions must be in compliance with local policies and field ethics.

Selection of abstracts

Abstracts will be reviewed by a committee and selected based on content, available space, and overall program balance. Decisions on acceptance, and granting the travel fund are final. The committee is not obligated to provide feedback to abstract authors regarding the final decisions.
Notifications regarding acceptance will be emailed to the authors by July 30th. The presenter must confirm their participation before August 15th to be included in the final program and receive their symposium ticket / travel fund.

Symposium participation

Upon selection of the abstract by out committee the author is required to give an 30 minute oral presentation at the symposium about their research on Friday or Saturday, October 11, or 12, 2019. All abstracts selected for presentation at the symposium will be rewarded with a one-day symposium ticket (which has a value of €120,-). The date of the ticket will be determined by the symposium organizers and is based on the day the abstract will be presented. 

Travel fund

All abstracts selected for presentation at the symposium will be rewarded with a one-day symposium ticket A committee will select the two best abstracts, which will be rewarded with a travel fund for the author. This means the author’s travel expenses to the symposium will be fully covered. To be eligible, authors must indicate their interest in the travel fund while submitting their abstract, as well as indicating from which country they will be traveling.
